A Note From The Photo Editor: Body Modifications

February 22, 2019

I wanted to take a moment to talk about something I don’t think I’ve ever explicitly said, which is, I don’t do any body modifications in my photos.

This has been important to me since day one of photography. I don’t modify my own body in photos and I don’t do it to others.

My general rule when retouching is that if something is temporary and distracting (like a pimple, a scratch, a stray hair, a wrinkle in clothing...) I’ll get rid of it.
What I don’t do is make people look thinner, remove moles, change skin color, etc.

I believe that everyone is beautiful as they are. With my candid style of photography not every angle is going to be the most flattering. That’s not always my main concern.

I want to make people look and feel their best, but beyond that I am always trying to capture genuine emotion. And that goes beyond sitting still and looking pretty.
